Cheick Kongo and Vinicius Spartan will compete for the heavyweight title shot in the main card of Bellator 106
Bellator officials have announced today that the heavyweight tourney finals between Cheick Kongo and Vinicius “Spartan” Queiroz will take place in Bellator 106. The addition of the fight completed the event’s 5-fight main card that is headlined by a light heavyweight showdown of UFC legends Tito Ortiz and Quinton “Rampage” Jackson.
Kongo has recently made his successful debut with Bellator by stopping Mark Godbeer in the second round of the tournament’s semifinal bout held more than a week ago. It marks Kongo’s first fight outside of UFC since signing with them in 2006. He parted ways with the promotion last April after the KO loss to Roy Nelson.
Queiroz, on the otherhand will try to look for his first back to back wins with Bellator. He is coming off a sensational knockout over Lavar Johnson where he stopped the UFC veteran in less than a minute of the first round of their fight in Bellator 102. Prior to that win, he was defeated by now Bellator heavyweight champion Alexander Volkov in the semifinals of Bellator’s season 7 heavyweight tournament.View Article Source »
Cheick Kongo kicked off his Bellator career with a TKO win over Mark GOdbeer
Visala, California – Two UFC veterans has split their debuts in the latest event of Bellator that was held this Friday in Visalia Convention Center, Visalia California. Bellator 102 has featured a pair of heavyweight and middleweight semifinal bouts as well the bantamweight tournament finals.
The two UFC veterans, Cheick Kongo and Lavar Johnson were expected to blow out their opponents but only one of them earned a win in their promotional debut. Cheick Kongo (19-8-2) has won his Bellator debut by stopping Mark Godbeer (8 – 2) in the second round of their semifinal bout. After an uneventful first round, Kongo slipped a haymaker and moved around to his opponent’s back. He then delivered his patented vicious knees in the clinch when Godbeer attempted to reverse the position. The overmatched Englishman tried to cover but he later crumpled in the floor due to the strikes. Big John McCarthy stopped the fight at 2:04 mark of the round. The win advances Kongo into the finals where he will meet Vinicius Queiroz, the man who has just beaten his fellow UFC veteran Lavar Johnson.Read the rest of the article »
