The victory of Anderson Silva was complete with detractors and supporters after escaping a narrow submission on the 5th round with Chael Sonnen. “I think Anderson needs to look at the spirit in which he’s competing,” he said. “It appears to me that he’s been doing his best not to lose. Instead of doing what he did early on and competing to win, and taking guys out, he’s doing enough now to get by, be successful and keep winning.”
That time, the Couture, 47, has responded that the age of Silva who was 35 wasn’t the case. Instead he pointed out that Silva was more passive and not cautious with his fights.

Fitch dominated the fight against Alves.
UFC 117 took the Saturday with a bang. And John Fitch made himself known, just like any other day in UFC. He took down Thiago Alves over and over again. Grinding him and winning the match with unanimous victory.
Fitch is winning by unanimous decisions in his last five fights and has made himself 2nd Welterweight in MMA behind only the champion Georges St. Pierre.
John Fitch has taken Alves on the first sole minute of the round and as it appeared, he has total control on the latter. Grinding is easier for Filch but Alves was indeed great when he got on top of Fitch and then standing back up with a minute and a half. But Alves didn’t stand up often and Fitch just finished the round by knocking down Alves for the second time.

Dana White knows how to encourage his fighter to give a good match. If not because of his promise for a title shot, Junior Dos Santos would not give his best shot. And it seems that the Brazilian big man is taking the promise for keeps.
Junior Dos Santos appears to get his promised title shot after winning at the UFC 117 against Roy Nelson. According to the UFC President Dana White, the performance was good enough to give the Brazilian big man a chance for the belt. The Dos Santos vs. Nelson bout was featured on the UFC 117 Card, where the former beats “The Ultimate Fighter 10″ winner. Though he was given strikes from all angles, Nelson’s body proves to be capable of accepting physical punishments. He even fought through and survived the final bell. It’s the score card (30-26, 30-27, 30-27) that gave a lopsided nature to the fight.
Aside from bigger challenges that awaits Dos Santos, he became more focused for UFC 117 because of the promised title shot. And in the event that he’ll win his upcoming match, three of the five title holders would be Brazilian. That would be Junior Dos Santos, Anderson Silva and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua. But if the title shot would take place in the big man’s home town, that remains to be seen. However, White stated that the company is planning for a Brazilian expansion.

People who took interest in Chel Sonnen's talks have dubbed the upcoming Saturday fight as the Chel Sonnen Show. In an interview with Fanhouse, Dana White expressed his views about the controversial fighter's barrage of predictions and insults toward his opponent, Anderson Silva.
Dana White spoke with Esther Lin after the pre-fight press-con of August 7′s UFC 117. Lin noted that the show did not need any additional promotions because of the attention that Chel Sonnen’s predictive one liners were getting. White agreed that this was helping, in a sense, in the fight’s promotions. “But at the end of the day,” he said, “it is [going to be] all about the fight.”
Despite the fact that Sonnen had been doing this in the last couple of fights, White’s reactions were: “How do you handle a person who says things you wouldn’t even think of. How do you deal with that?”
To White’s observations, the thing with Sonnen was that he believed everything he said. Fighters can talk all they want but it is the fight that counts. So Sonnen could not be all talk, according to the UFC president. White even remarked about the fighter’s ability to pose serious threat to Silva. And he looked like he was hoping to see both Sonnen and Silva perform comes Saturday night.

Fighting on short notice is a familiar theme to him. Upon learning that his opponent Thiago Silva was injured, Tim Boetsch, though disappointed, looks forward to his fight with newbie Todd Brown.
The news that Thiago Silva, Tim Boetsch’s opponent on the scheduled UFC 117 on August 7, was injured made Boetsch somehow sad. He wished everything was of false news.
“I just had my phone blowing up from text messages and messages from everybody saying, ‘Sorry, Thiago dropped out.’ At that point I haven’t even heard about it — slept in real late today — I was pretty confused about all that was going on,” Boetsch told MMAFighting.com, an hour after learning of Silva’s departure from the Oakland card.
