In this week's MMA Hall of Fame, Fighting Insider will be featuring a man that is not a MMA fighter but has contributed so much in the sports. Introducing Charles "Mask" Lewis Jr.

Charles Lewis Jr., also known as “Mask”, is a promoter, entertainer and the co-founder of TapouT. He founded the TapouT clothing line in 1997, with his friends “Skyskrape” and “Punkass”. Over the decades, the apparel business that they’ve started from the back of their Mustang became a multi-million dollar company.

Born on June 23, 1963, Charles Lewis Jr. was known as “Mask” because of the stripes of face paint he frequently wore. In 2007, he and his friends starred in a reality TV series, entitle TapouT, on Versus. The show followed up and coming martial arts fighters.

Kirby Found Guilty in Mask’s Death

An Orange County, Calif. jury today convicted a man involved in a 2009 car crash that killed TapouT co-founder Charles "Mask" Lewis. Jeffrey David Kirby will face a maximum of 13 years in prison.

Based on the papers released by Orange County District Attorney’s Office, Jeffrey David Kirby is convicted guilty in a 2009 car-crash that killed TapouT co-founder, Charles “Mask” Lewis. Kirby will face a maximum of 13 years in prison on one felony count of vehicular manslaughter by unlawful act, with gross negligence while intoxicated.

TapouT, Silver Star and Hitman Now Under Salter

The brands TapouT, Silver Star Casting Co., and Hitman Fight Gear now under one family.

Last Monday, Bloomberg said that the three mixed martial arts clothing brands had been purchased by business tycoon Jamie Salter. This is the same man who manages Linens ’n Things Inc., Polaroid Corp., and others.

These three brands purchased by Salter are said to be grouped under a single company named Authentic Brands Group LLC.

Salter shows his enthusiasm in his statement. “These are some of the most exciting brands I’ve seen in years. The popularity of mixed martial arts and the UFC is soaring around the world. The last time I saw a sport with this much potential was 20 years ago with snowboarding.”
