As they team up, Junior dos Santos and Demian Maia form the Brazilian Yin Yang, training together to fill each others holes in their game play.

Demian Maia and Junior Dos Santos, the last time they fought on a card together was at UFC 95. That night, Dos Santos annihilated his opponent, Stefan Struve, in a 54-second match by way of knock out. Meanwhile, Demian Maia needed only half of a round to submit Chael Sonnen.

As is often in the Brazilian fight scene, it was Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira who brought the two together – several months later – when Demian Maia was looking for a training partner to improve his fighting skills. On the other hand, Junior Dos Santos needed more experience on the ground despite being skillful on both feet. Heading to UFC 131, they are both set for a main card tournament. Thus, their connection continues.

Demian Maia will stand against heavy-handed wrestler, Mark Munoz, this weekend. And if Mark Munoz does the usual gameplay, he’ll expect to engage in a stand up battle. At the same time, Junior Dos Santos will face Shane Carwin for the no. 1 contender spot against the UFC heavyweight champion — Cain Velasquez. The training partners will be in deep water on Saturday, and it’s only in UFC 131 that fans will know who will survive.

"I don't care about the opponent now. I want to fight." --- Junior Dos Santos, UFC heavyweight fighter

There was no excess fats on display, as Junior Dos Santos shows his body before he faces Shane Carwin on Saturday. He surely didn’t look like a fighter who hasn’t gone to training for ten months. No noticeable signs of laziness.

As the Brazillian displayed his boxing skills alongside with some tricky mitt work at Wednesday afternoon’s UFC 131 open workouts, he appeared to be as sharp as ever. Even if he became rusty from the rest he took, one would think that the way he hit the focus mitts with the speed and timing of a punk rock drummer couldn’t help but knock that rust right off. Then again, that’s what the mitts are there for.
