Another fight is set for 2011 for the Ultimate Fighting Championship. UFC’s lightweight champion Mauricio “Shogun” Rua will defend his title belt against Rashad Evans at a UFC event in Newark, New Jersey on March 19, 2011.
Evans confirmed the news last Thursday during the night show of MMA Live on ESPN2.
Meanwhile, last Wednesday FightingInsider confirmed in post that the expected Abu Dhabi card that would have hosted the event is canceled. The fight will now take place in Newark.
“I’m definitely excited,” Evans said. “I’m more excited to hear he’s healthy and in shape and ready to fight in March.”
Ru, as of the moment, is on the recovery phase from a surgery to repair his torn anterior cruciate ligament. This is the cause of the delay in booking for the fight. Rua dethrone Lyoto Machida via first round knock-out last UFC 113.
Evans competed last May defeating Rampage Jackson via unanimous decision at UFC 114. The challenger Evans has a record of 15-1-1, while the champ Rua is 19-4.

For Shogun, everything is going well and on schedule. And if his knee rehabilitation goes well, the fans might see him back in the Octagon sometime in early 2011.
Mauricio “Shogun” Rua, after defeating Lyoto Machida at UFC 113 last May, underwent reconstructive surgery to repair a ligament in his left knee. Shogun, who recently visited his surgeon in Los Angeles, pointed out that his recovery is on schedule. Still, Rua wants to continue rehabilitating his knee for another month before getting back in training. A high-profile match-up with Rashad Evans is slated for his return, but nothing official has been announced yet. Shogun eyes to get back in the Octagon in early 2011.
