Earlier last Wednesday, the Pennsylvania State Athletic Commission lifted Nate Marquardt's suspension. Now, he's fearing up to get back to action.
Following what Nate Marquardt admits to be the most difficult part of his MMA career, the fighter can’t wait to return in active competition. And while UFC President, Dana White, announced that his career in the Octagon is over, he is still hopeful that he’ll come back to the promotion someday. But for now, he just want to let his future opponents – Ben Askren, B.J. Penn, Paul Daley and Hector Lombard – know that he’s listening.
Nate Marquardt’s troubles began in June, when PSAC forbids him to fight against Rick Story due to elevated testosterone level. The commission then suspended the fighter, followed by his release from UFC. But earlier last Wednesday, the PSAC lifted Nate Marquardt’s suspension. That said, the middleweight fighter is now free to book his next contest.Read the rest of the article »
Following last Saturday's Overeem vs Werdum match, the Strikeforce matchmakers penciled a welterweight clash between Paul Daley and Cyborg Santos next month.
Last Saturday, Strikeforce officials announced that a welterweight duel between Paul Daley and Evangelista ‘Cyborg’ Santos will be part of the upcoming Fedor vs Henderson card. With the Paul Daley vs Cyborg Santos likely to be part of the main card, the upcoming event will kick off on July 30 at the Sears Center Arena in Hoffman Estates, Illinois.
Paul Daley will be returning in the cage after this April loss against current welterweight champion, Nick Diaz. But prior to his TKO Loss, Paul Daley won eight of his nine bouts, with his sole defeat coming from Josh Koscheck at UFC 113. Meanwhile, Evangelista Santos is also coming from a loss against Nick Diaz. His January title match marred his two-fight win streak from Marius Zaromski and Daniel Zarate.
Also in the card is a women’s title fight between reigning champ, Marloes Coenen, and top contender, Meisha Tate. Marloes Coenen will defend her title for the second time, after snatching the title from Liz Carmouche last March.View Article Source »
"I think they definitely made an impact on ticket sales over the weekend as that commercial ran." ---Scott Coker, Strikeforce President
According to Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker, UFC gave boost to “Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Daley” promotion.
This Wednesday, Coker told MMA site MMAJunkie, that the first Strikeforce commercial to air on a UFC broadcast made a big difference in ticket sales for the event. Executives believe that as the promo continues, it will drive higher sales when the final tallies are in.
“We’re right around 4,000,” Coker said of current ticket sales.
“Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Daley” will meet its spectators this April 9 at Valley View Casino Center in San Diego and airs live on Showtime. It will feature a fight between Strikeforce welterweight champ Nick Diaz and challenger Paul Daley. Both came from the UFC umbrella.
UFC first aired a commercial for the event during last Saturday’s UFC 128 broadcast.
Coker said Strikeforce benefits greatly from the UFC’s stint on television and social media.
“I think they definitely made an impact on ticket sales over the weekend as that commercial ran,” he said. “They have the ability to get the consumer that purchases MMA. As you know, their Facebook (page) has five million (friends), and their Twitter is 1.2 million. They just get to a lot of people really quick about events that are happening.
“It’s a good thing. It’s a lot more than we had.”
And that could lead to bigger numbers in television viewer-ship and live attendance.
“I believe this fight can do 8,000 to 10,000 people,” Coker said.
Among its 46 events to date, Strikeforce has topped the 10,000 attendance mark just eight times.View Article Source »
