Former middleweight contender Yushin Okami has been cut in the UFC after his TKO loss to Ronaldo Souza
This perhaps is the most surprising of UFC’s roster cuts since the promotion released welterweight contender John Fitch early this year. Officers of UFC have confirmed in MMAjunkie.com that they have released former middleweight contender Yushin Okami.
Okami, who was branded by UFC president Dana White as the best fighter to come out of Japan has been a top ranked fighter since he joined UFC in 2006. He won his debut fight with a decision against Alan Belcher in the preliminary card of UFC 69. Throughout his seven years in the UFC, Okami compiled a record of 18 wins and 5 losses. His impressive resume includes wins over the likes of Mark Munoz, Mike Swick and former Strikeforce champion Nate Marquardt.
The 32 year old Japanese has been riding on a three fight winning streak before losing by 1st round TKO to Ronaldo Souza in his most recent outing.View Article Source »
A new fighter enters the UFC roster, as Luis "Beicao" Ramos inks a deal with the promotion and replaces Mike Swick for UFC 134.
Shooto’s 168-pound world champion – Luis “Beicao” Ramos – signs a contract with Ultimate Fighting Championship, and will make his Octagon debut against Erick Silva at UFC 134. The negotiation was not officially announced by the promotion, but it was confirmed by Nova Uniao leader — Andre Paderneiras.
Luis Ramos will step in for Mike Swick, after the latter bows out due to anterior cruciate and medial collateral ligament injuries on his left knee. The 30-year-old fighter was defeated only once via unanimous decision by Roan Carneiro last October. Since then, Beicao boasts three-fight win streak. He also conquered Watch Out Combat Show’s one-night April tournament before recording a throttling of Dimitri Burgos last July 23.
UFC 134 will take place on August 27, at Rio de Janeiro’s HSBC Arena. The said event will feature a middleweight title bout between Anderson Silva and Yushin Okami.View Article Source »
