Jon Fitch expects a rematch with Josh Burkman if both of them wins in WSOF 6 this coming Saturday
Former UFC contender Jon Fitch is looking to get back in the winning column when he steps to the cage against the hard hitting Marcelo Alfaya this coming Saturday at WSOF 6.
Fitch has been a top rated welterweight before he suffered a string of defeats that changed the course of his career. He started his UFC campaign with eight consecutive victories only to fall against Georges St-Pierre in his bid for the welterweight crown. He would again notch up 5 wins in a row before a draw with BJ Penn and a 12 second knockout loss to Johny Hendricks. He won another fight after that but he will be eventually released by UFC following a lopsided loss at the hands of Demian Maia. In his WSOF debut, Fitch was choked out in less than a minute by fellow UFC veteran Josh Burkman.
Marcelo Alfaya, who will be making his promotional debut against Fitch, is unbeaten in his last three bouts. He is coming off a 25 second knockout win against Valdir Araujo in CFA 9 last January.
“He’s a tough guy,” Fitch said. “Good jiu-jitsu, heavy-handed. He hasn’t had a super-active career in the last three years, but he had some good wins. He had a 30-second knockout in last fight. He’s a serious threat so I have to take him as a serious threat and do whatever I can to put him away as fast as I can.”
Fitch, despite claiming that he is focused on Alfaya, admits that he is pursuing a third match with Josh Burkman. Each fighter holds submission win over the other. Fitch submitted Burkman in his second octagon appearance and the latter avenged that loss with a 41 second guillotine choke in Fitch’s WSOF debut last June.

Torres, a former WEC bantamweight champion has lost his recent outing when he dropped a razor thin decision to Marlon Baroes in the inaugural event of WSOF. He has only suffered 6 losses in 46 fights but 3 of them came in his last four bouts.Read the rest of the article »
Yushin Okami finds a new home in WSOF
Perennial middleweight contender Yushin Okami immediately finds another home after being sacked from the octagon last month. It was initially reported at MMAfighting.com that Okami has recently signed an exclusive multi-fight contract to World Series of Fighting organization. The signing was later confirmed in twitter by WSOF head Ray Sefo.
Okami has won 3 of his last 4 fights before he was released by UFC. He has a record of 13 – 5 in the octagon with wins over tough oppositions that includes Alan Belcher, Hector Lombard and Mark Munoz. With the signing, Okami will join fellow UFC veteran and welterweight contender Jon Fitch as one of the notable names in the roster of WSOF. Like Okami, Fitch was also surprisingly released by UFC despite spending the majority of his career as a top 10 in his division. It was said that Okami’s WSOF debut will take place around March 2014 but the exact fight details, including the name of his opponent, is yet to be announced. Meanwhile, WSOF will be presenting their next event WSOF 6, this coming October 26 at Coral Gables, Florida. It will be headlined by the promotions inaugural welterweight title fight between Josh Burkman and Steve Carl.
