Tito Ortiz' neck injury forced Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney to cancel their first ever PPV event
Bellator MMA encountered a major roadblock leading up to their first ever PPV event when Tito Ortiz injured his neck while preparing for his showdown with fellow UFC legend Quinton Jackson in Bellator 106. As a result, Bellator scrapped the headlining bout and they turned the PPV into a regular event on Spike TV. The lightweight title fight between Eddie Alvarez and Michael Chandler will now serve as the main event in the four-fight main card that includes the featherweight title fight between Pat Curran and Daniel Strauss and an interim light heavyweight title fight with Muhammed Lawal and Emanuel Newton. The card will also feature the “Fight Master” finals between Joe Riggs and Mike Bronzoulis.Read the rest of the article »
Kendall Grove returns to the win column; Andrei Arlovski knocks out Ray Lopez during the bout's third round; and Raegan Penn made a remarkable debut at ProElite 1.
ProElite just held its first MMA event last Saturday at the Neal S. Blaisdell Center in Honolulu, Hawaii. The crowd was filled with excitement and thrills, as most participants performed their quick finishes.
In the night’s main card, UFC fighter – Kendall Grove – listed his name on the win column after defeating Joe Riggs through a submission victory. The latter forced the former up against the cage, but his neck was immediately caught by Kendall Grove’s long arms. The former UFC Fighter won the bout via guillotine choke, just 59 seconds into the first round.
Following four consecutive losses, Andrei Arlovski has attained the title belt once again. He finished heavyweight fighter Ray Lopez through a TKO during the third round of the match. Although Andrei Arlovski wasn’t able to defeat Ray Lopez in a quick manner, he still grabbed the evening’s spotlight after getting on top of his contender and defeating him with powerful punches.
BJ Penn’s younger brother, Reagan Penn, also made his promotional debut remarkable. Through having his brother’s support and fighting tips, Reagan Penn attained the victory over Paul Gardner. The newcomer impressively pulled the latter into the mat, and finished him using a rear-naked choke technique in just 70 seconds after the bell rings.
