The bout between Gesias Cavalcante and Lyle Beerbohm has been listed to July 30's Strikeforce: "Fedor vs. Henderson" event.
The upcoming Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Henderson event will be more thrilling, as it adds the face-off between Gesias Cavalcante and Lyle Beerbohm. The ‘Fedor vs Henderson’ fight card will be held on July 30 at the Hoffman Estates in Illinois.
Gesias Cavalcante’s recent bout against Justin Wilcox was ruled a no contest, after he accidentally injured the latter’s eye during the Strikeforce: “Overeem vs Werdum” event in Dallas. “JZ” now only owns a single victory since September of 2007. Meanwhile, Lyle Beerbohm had shown a great performance throughout his mixed martial arts career. The fighter boasts a current record of 16-0, including several promotions around the United States. Beerbohm had participated in most big Strikeforce events, which includes the one held last April 9 wherein his neck was cranked after he initiated a grappling match with Shinya Aoki.
The July 30’s event will also highlight the bout between Russian heavyweight – Fedor Emelianenko – and Light Heavyweight Champ, Dan Henderson. For more news regarding the ‘Fedor vs Henderson’ fight, stay tuned to Fighting Insider.View Article Source »
"I know no matter what, it's going to be a war. There's no way around it. He's hard to take down. He's got heavy hands. He's everything. You can't stop the guy. He's a great fighter." - Josh Thomson on Gilbert Melendez
Former Strikeforce lightweight champion, Josh Thomson, likely earned a return shot at Gilbert Melendez with his decision win over Gesias Cavalcante last Saturday. However, Thomson admits that his body is less than ready for the encounter. He was clipped by an early punch and arm-in guillotine choke by Cavalcante during the match. Fortunately for The Punk, he survived the trouble and landed a powerful ground-and-pound blows for the frame.Read the rest of the article »
The lightweight champion of Strikeforce a couple of years ago, Josh Thomson, is back on a brawl on October 9 at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California.
“I want to fight all the best lightweights. Right now Strikeforce has a bunch of top fighters at 155 pounds. There’s always going to be talk about a third fight with Gilbert (Melendez), but that will come when the time is right.”
Says Thomson, who took the title from a victory over Gilbert Melendez in 2008. But their second matchup submitted victory to the former. But the lightweight is confident in the steps he is taking these days. He looks forward to the “plenty of great fights” being presented to him–including this coming clash with Gesias “JZ” Cavalcante.
Their card was announced official by the promotion last Friday. This October’s Strikeforce will broadcast live on Showtime at 10 p.m. ET/PT, delayed on the West Coast.View Article Source »
