BJ Penn and Frankie Edgar will meet in the octagon for the third time after their stint as coaches of The Ultimate Fighter 19

Dana White has told a small of group of reporters in Brazil about BJ Penn’s original plans before dropping to featherweight. He said that Penn originally asked for a fight with Benson Henderson as stepping stone for a trilogy with Frankie Edgar. Dana then decided that the former 2 division champion didn’t need to take an extra step. He asked Frankie if he wanted to fight BJ again and pitted them against each other as head coaches of the upcoming TUF season.

Benson Henderson and Frankie Edgar are set to duel in a lightweight bout, at the upcoming UFC 150 event.

Sources confirm that lightweight fighters Benson Henderson and Frankie Edgar are set to fight each other at the upcoming UFC 150 event. UFC officials have yet to confirm this news.

Edgar was initially encouraged by UFC president Dana White to drop to 145 pounds, however he refused to heed this suggestion. Henderson was expected to fight Anthony Pettis, after Pettis defeated Joe Lauzon via a knockout at UFC 144.

UFC 150 is expected to take place on August 11 and may be held at the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado. These details have yet to be finalized.

Frankie Edgar talks about Rematch Against Henderson

UFC President Dana White confirms last Tuesday, that there will be a rematch that for the UFC Lightweight Title between fighters, Frankie Edgar and Ben Henderson. The fight will be schedule to take place this summer.

In a recent interview with the MMAWeekly Radio, Edgar says that he is relieved and happy.

“It was a relief, it really was. A weight lifted off my chest, it’s been weighing on me. I definitely made it known that I wanted the rematch, I’m not going to sit there and I don’t want to argue for a title, I want to fight for a title. I’m just happy I get to fight for it now.”

“… I also want to say I want to thank Ben too for taking the rematch, just like you mentioned before with B.J. (Penn), I didn’t have to accept it and I did, and Ben he didn’t have to accept it, and he has, so much respect to him as well.”

UFC’s light-heavyweight champion Jon “Bones” Jones bags the Charles “Mask” Lewis Fighter of the Year award. One of the highlights of the 2011 Fourth Annual Fighters Only World MMA Awards which took place last Wednesday, November 30th at The Pearl at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas. Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) fighter Chael Sonnen and CBS Sports Network’s Molly Qerim hosted the BodyBuilding.com sponsored show.

Other highlights include Strikeforce champion Meisha Tate bagging the award for Female Fighter of the Year and a well-deserved Special Lifetime Achievement award for the late Canadian kickboxer and mixed martial artist, Shawn Tomkins. The show which honored achievements from September 2010 to August 2011 will soon broadcast nationally on FOX Sports Net via tape delay on Dec. 11 at 8 p.m. ET/PT (Eastern/Pacific time).

Leonard Garcia vs Nam Phan Rematch, Added to UFC 136 Fight Card

Nam Phan and Leonard Garcia will finally have their much-awaited rematch at next month's UFC 136 event.

Nam Phan is now slated to face his fellow featherweight, Leonard Garcia, in a rematch following the controversial TUF 12 Finale fight. Phan was supposed to face Matt Grice at the upcoming event, replacing the injured Josh Grispi. However, Grice was forced to withdraw from the card due to an injury.

UFC officials announced that verbal agreements have been set for the rematch. UFC 136 is scheduled on October 8 at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas. The main card, which will be aired on pay-per-view, is highlighted by the lightweight championship bout between Frankie Edgar and Gray Maynard. There are also two fights booked for Spike TV’s “UFC Prelims” special, and five bouts to be aired on Facebook.

Tickets for UFC 136: Edgar vs Maynard 3 goes on sale starting today!

Set to take place on October 8 in Toyota Center in Houston, tickets for UFC 136: Edgar vs Maynard 3 will go on sale starting today. UFC Fight Club Members will get the first chance to purchase their tickets later at 10:00 am CT. Then on Thursday, August 18, UFC Newsletter subscribers can purchase theirs at 10:00 am CT. Ticket sales will go public on Friday, August 19 at 10:00 am CT as well.

The UFC 136: Edgar vs Maynard 3 will feature a rubber match between Frankie Edgar and Gray Maynard, following their 125 fight which resulted to a draw. Also in the main card is a featherweight title match between reigning champion, Jose Aldo, and Kenny Florian.

UFC 133 Weigh-ins, Set for August 5 at Philadelphia’s Wells Fargo Center

UFC officials scheduled a date and venue for the UFC 133 weigh-in ceremony. MMA fans are invited!

MMA fans are invited to take part in the weigh-in ceremony of the upcoming “UFC 133: Evans vs. Ortiz II” event. The said ceremony takes place Friday, August 5, at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania — the same venue of the much-awaited tournament, which will highlight the rematch between Rashad Evans (15-1-1) and Tito Ortiz (16-8-1).

Opening of the festivities for UFC Fight Club members begins at 12 p.m. ET.

At around 2 p.m. ET., middleweight fighter – Chael Sonnen – will be hosting a special Q&A session for the UFC’s official fan club members. The ceremony will also hold an autograph session at the UFC’s Octagon Nation, which will begin at 1 p.m. ET. It will feature UFC bantamweight champion, Dominick Cruz; UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar; and Pennsylvania native Charlie Brenneman.

The ceremony will be free and open to the public at 3 p.m. ET, while the actual weigh-ins start at 4 p.m. E.T.
