Matt Hughes: Not Ready to Retire Yet

Written on September 24, 2011 by Markham Mencken

Matt Hughes is not yet ready to leave the Octagon, but a "Chuck Liddell job" looks appealing.

UFC Hall of Fame inductee, Matt Hughes, admits that he’s not quite ready to leave the sport that paid his bills for the past 13 years. However, his family has a different opinion on what should happen after his UFC 135 match against Josh Koscheck. But while Matt Hughes insists that the UFC 135 result will not determine his choice, he said that UFC President – Dana White – offered a job where he could “stick around and get paid to do nothing.”

However, that doesn’t mean that Matt Hughes is ready to take the position just yet. His love for action, the hunger to be the best, the camaraderie of his teammates and training partners are still one of his source of joy in every aspect of MMA. But he also admits that the 21-second loss against BJ Penn at UFC 123 made him consider all possibilities. Regardless, he wants nothing more than to end his career on the strength of a win. Still, he hopes that his competitive drive doesn’t led him into hanging around too long.

UFC 134: Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua Wins over Forrest Griffin

Written on August 29, 2011 by Lulu

Mauricio "Shogun" Rua finally made his revenge on Forrest Griffin after winning the light heavyweight battle last Saturday.

After his title lost to Jon Jones at UFC 128, Maurcio “Shogun” Rua won his bout against Forrest Griffin at the UFC 134 last August 27. This victory served as his revenge for the man who defeated him during his UFC debut.

Watching the fight that took place on Saturday night in Brazil, no one would even recognize the Mauricio “Shogun” Rua who fought Forrest Griffin the first time. He seems like a bull that charged forward and was relentless with his attack on his opponent. Once Forrest Griffin fell to the ground, Mauricio “Shogun” Rua was on him like a pitbull and launched a blitzing series of hammer fist which ended the bout.

It was exactly the type of homecoming Mauricio “Shogun” Rua wanted to have, as he fought in front of his fans in Brazil. For the long time veteran of Pride and the UFC, getting a win like that at UFC 134 was everything he could have hoped for. The victory puts him back on track to hopefully earn another shot at Jon Jones or anyone who has the light heavyweight title in the future.

It now official! Mauricio "Shogun" Rua and Forrest Griffin, another former UFC titleholder, will meet at UFC: Rio, on Aug. 27 in Rio de Janeiro.

Following his loss to defend his UFC light heavyweight title to Jon Jones, Mauricio Shogun Rua will face Forrest Griffin at UFC Rio for a rebound. He was considered the no. 1 light heavyweight fighter in the world before losing his title at UFC 128 last month. But prior to that, it was Forrest Griffin who welcomed him in the sports back in 2007.

Though Forrest Griffin was the underdog during UFC 76, he was able to upset Mauricio Shogun Rua via submission. That victory led him to a title fight against Quinton Rampage Jackson at UFC 86, where he won via unanimous decision. Since then he was 2-2, including a loss to Rashad Evans.

The UFC Rio will take place on August 27 at Rio de Janiero. Let your bets be known by leaving a comment.
