Jon Jones bags the Fighter of the Year at the 2011 World MMA Awards, Strikeforce champion Miesha Tate gets the Female Fighter of the Year award and late renowned Canadian trainer Shawn Tompkins receives a Special Lifetime Achievement award.

UFC’s light-heavyweight champion Jon “Bones” Jones bags the Charles “Mask” Lewis Fighter of the Year award. One of the highlights of the 2011 Fourth Annual Fighters Only World MMA Awards which took place last Wednesday, November 30th at The Pearl at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas. Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) fighter Chael Sonnen and CBS Sports Network’s Molly Qerim hosted the BodyBuilding.com sponsored show.

Other highlights include Strikeforce champion Meisha Tate bagging the award for Female Fighter of the Year and a well-deserved Special Lifetime Achievement award for the late Canadian kickboxer and mixed martial artist, Shawn Tomkins. The show which honored achievements from September 2010 to August 2011 will soon broadcast nationally on FOX Sports Net via tape delay on Dec. 11 at 8 p.m. ET/PT (Eastern/Pacific time).

Rashad Evans: Michael Bisping vs Anderson Silva will be Interesting

UFC light heavyweight fighter, Rashad Evans, believes that Michael Bisping deserves a shot to duel against Anderson Silva, and that a Bisping vs Silva match is interesting.

Michael Bisping showed his interest in fighting Anderson Silva for the title in the future — if given the shot. But the British middleweight fighter has a lot of detractors who disparages his chances of dueling against the division’s champ. However, light heavyweight fighter – Rashad Evans – believes that it is a mistake to write Michael Bisping off that easy.

Know the stories behind the octagon inside the 'Train Hard Fight Easy' magazine.

UFC welterweight champion, Georges St-Pierre, will be featured fighter on debut issue of ‘Train Hard Fight Easy.’ Fans will know how GSP trains, eats and maintains his fitness level from pre-fight to post-fight.

“Basically, what you’re going to find in there is you’ve got Renzo Gracie doing jiu-jitsu technique, Wanderlei Silva and (Rafael) Cordeiro doing our Muay Thai, Greg Jackson is taking care of all our MMA technique, and Matt Hughes and Kenny Johnson taking care of the wrestling technique,” Gary Alexander, Operations Manager of Fighters Only said.

The World MMA Awards 2010 Winners

Last night's 2010 World MMA Awards was spectacular from start to end. FightingInsider knows you are keen on knowing who got the awards and those who went home empty-handed. Nevertheless, those who received recognitions are all deserving.

Last night, the World MMA Awards 2010 took place at The Pearl in The Palms Casino Resort, Las Vegas. This is the third year for the award-giving body which started by Fighters Only magazine in 2008. Nominees and winners were determined from fan votes which was conducted online. Categories include Fighter of the Year, Knockout of the Year and Breakthrough Fighter of the Year, as well as non-fight specific categories like Ring Girl of the Year and Most Memorable Ring Entrance.

The past year’s winners included UFC president Dana White as Leading Man of the Year, Georges St-Pierre for Fighter of the Year and Brock Lesnar for Breakthrough Fighter of the Year.

The event was lead by UFC Hall of Famer Randy Couture with co-host Molly Qerim from Versus network. The event streamed live at Versus.com, while the edited one-hour highlights version will air on Versus on Dec. 9 at 10 p.m. Eastern.

Randy Couture: Aiming for Hollywood Stardom

Ultimate Fighting Championship Hall of Famer Randy Couture (19-10 MMA, 16-7 UFC) has not yet announced his official decision about his fighting career, but “The Natural” revealed that his schedule is not yet booked for several months.

Couture, who’s hosting 2010 World MMA Awards next week, will start shooting the new Bruce Willis film, “Setup,” in December and hopes to emancipate his role as Toll Road in “The Expendables II” beginning in March. Randy Couture revealed this on The Dave and Mahoney Morning Show in Las Vegas’ X-107.5 FM wherein he was a guest.

“I’m getting ready to do a movie in Grand Rapids, Mich., here the first couple weeks of December with Bruce Willis,” Couture said.”

“It just happened a couple of days ago. It’s a fun character. Small part, but a fun character in kind of a gangster movie.”

MMA Awards Officially Airs on Versus

The much-anticipated award giving body for Mixed Martial Arts are little by little becoming official. The Fighters Only MMA Awards 2010 will air on Versus and former ESPN reporter Molly Qerim will be Randy Couture's co-host.

For the second MMA Awards ceremony, Versus station will be the one to air the event. It was announced and disclosed by officials today.

This 2010 World MMA Awards is a black-tie ceremony which will take place on Dec. 1 in Las Vegas. A taped version of the event will air Dec. 9 at 10 p.m. ET (7 p.m. PT) on Versus.

Fighters Only has announced earlier this year that UFC Hall of Famer and known legend, Randy Couture, will host the ceremony. His co-host will be Molly Qerim, former ESPN “MMA Live” host and reporter who works for Versus now.

Finally, the lists of nominees for the 2010 Fighters Only World MMA Awards is revealed. With UFC dominating 20 categories, it shows how far the promotion has reached.

The Finalist for the Fighters Only 2010 World MMA Awards is revealed. On the third edition of the award wgiving body, UFC as always, dominated the 20 categories. All winners are to be determined via fan vote and ballots to be cast on Nov. 26 at www.worldmmaawards.com. This year’s awards culminate with a black-tie, red-carpet ceremony that takes place Dec. 1 at The Pearl at The Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas. Broadcast plans are expected to be announced shortly.

“The anticipation for the 2010 awards has been a little overwhelming,” Fighters Only CEO Rob Hewitt stated. “I couldn’t be more thrilled by the potential of this year’s event. Randy Couture, Official Co-Host for the MMA Awards

Randy Couture is an official co-host to this year's MMA Awards.

As reported earlier on www.fightinginsider.com, the 2010 World MMA Awards is open for nominations. The December event has found itself a co-host. CEO Rob Hewitt announced today at the Press Conference of “Fighters Only” at Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas that they chose the Legend, Hall of Famer and Ultimate Fighter, Randy Couture to be co-host.

“This announcement goes hand-in-hand with our commitment to make this year’s awards bigger and better,” Hewitt said. “We are proud to announce Randy ‘The Natural’ Couture as the co-host of the 2010 ceremony. I’ve mentioned the word ‘legitimate’ before. Randy epitomizes legitimacy as as fighter, a world champion, a movie star and is the best ambassador to mixed martial arts there has ever been. He’s been committed throughout his career to representing the sport with the highest regard to professionalism – both in and out of the octagon – and has become a legend and an icon in the process. We are honored to have Randy involved in the World Mixed Martial Arts Awards.”

MMA Awards 2010: Now Open for Nominations

It's the award season for the world of cage fighting, and the MMA Awards 2010 is now open for Nominations.

“Fighters Only”, the World MMA Awards is now on its third season’s installment and is now taking down nominations for the 2010 cover.

Nomination is based on the performance of the fighters from September last year until the end of this month. Under 20 categories until September 26. Finalists will be announced on October 1 and the voting ends on November 26 at the www.worldmmaawards.com.

The winners will be awarded at The Pearl at the Palms Casino, Vegas on December 1 with a black-tie reception. All of this sponsored by BodyBuilding.com. Broadcast details are to be announced.
