Dominick Cruz will be stripped off his bantamweight belt if he will not be ready to defend it by February next year
It seems like bantamweight champ Dominick Cruz will be the last fighter to hold on to his the belt without defending it for a long period of time. The Dominator was injured in May of 2012 and is sidelined up to February next year. That is more than 2 years of inactivity and the champ would probably have fought 3 times if weren’t for the injury. He was supposed to face Urijah Faber in a rematch for the bantamweight belt before he suffered from a torn ACL. He was replaced by Renan Barao and the Brazilian eventually won the interim title. He has defended the belt two times and he won both of those fights in a spectacular fashion. It should also be noted that it is the first time for an interim champion to defend the belt twice.Read the rest of the article »
Interim bantamweight champ Renan Barao wants to be the best by fighting Dominick Cruz
Fresh from his highlight reel knock out of Eddie Wineland in UFC 165, Renan Barao has told MMAfighting.com that Dana White informed him that he won’t be defending the interim bantamweight in his return to the octagon.
The UFC has decided to strip Dominick Cruz of the regular title if “The Dominator” will not be cleared by the start of 2014. According to Barao, that decision makes a lot of sense since Cruz has been out for 2 years. Cruz last fought in the octagon when he defended his bantamweight title with a unanimous decision win over Demetrious Johnson in October of 2011.Read the rest of the article »

Yves Edwards vs. Rafaello Oliveira, slated for UFC on versus 6 event in Washinton.
After suffering from their current misfortunes, two MMA fighters are now set to regain victories inside the Octagon. Yves Edwards (40-17-1 MMA, 8-5 UFC) and Rafaello Oliveira (14-4 MMA, 1-3 UFC) verbally agreed to meet at the upcoming UFC on Versus 6 event, which will be held at Verizon Center in Washington, D.C. on October 1. The evening’s main card, which highlights the most anticipated match-up between Dominick Cruz and Demetrious Johnson, will be aired on Versus.
The Edwards vs. Oliveira bout will be included on the night’s preliminary card.
Yves Edwards is currently holding a three-fight win streak, which includes his UFC victories against Cody McKenzie and John Gunderson, and Bellator fighter Luis Palomino. Unfortunately, he attained a knock-out loss over Sam Stout during the UFC 131 way back in June 2011 – the said loss entitled Stout as the evening’s “Knockout of the Night.”
His contender, Rafaello Oliveira, is indeed much ready to win his upcoming match – which is considered to be the only way of preventing his resignation under the promotion. The “Tractor” was released by UFC last March 2010, following two decision losses. During the UFC 130 event in May 28, 2011, he was called again by the promotion to replace the injured Bart Palaszewski – wherein he ended up being submitted by Gleison Tibau via a rear-naked choke technique.View Article Source »
