“It was a loss and I will be back stronger.”---Tiequan Zhang

Does the name Tiequan Zhang ring a bell? He’s none other than the first Chinese fighter to step foot in WEC. To add more hype to his flourishing fighting career, rumors are saying he is also likely to be the first Chinese fighter to make it into UFC.

Tiequan made his grand entrance at WEC 51 by defeating Pablo Garza via submission. Known with the moniker “Mongolian Wolf,” he returned at WEC 53 but gained a unanimous decision to Danny Downes.

This defeat motivated Tiequan to go back to the gym and train even more. “There’s no excuse for my loss,” said Tiequan. “It was a loss and I will be back stronger.”

The transition of the “Mongolian Wolf” from one promotion to another is part of the merge between WEC and UFC.
