“Jose Aldo” the new UFC featherweight champion at UFC 125

WEC’s final featherweight champion Jose Aldo (18-1 MMA, 8-0 WEC) will enter the octagon for the first time on UFC’s 2001 Opening Fight.

UFC president Dana White announced today, together with the news on WEC and UFC’s merging that the featherweight champ will defend his title. But still his opponent wasn’t divulged. UFC 125 will fetaure UFC champ Frankie Edgar and top contender Gray Maynard. The event will take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Dana White believes that Aldo is entering the gates of being a MMA Star.

“This kid could be a huge star,” White said. “[WEC fighters] are finally on the biggest stage in the world now.”

The potential opponents for Aldo are Canadian veteran Mark Hominick (19-8 MMA, 3-2 WEC) and Josh Grispi (14-1 MMA, 4-0 WEC).
