Wanderlei Silva and Chael Sonnen will settle the score inside the octagon after their stint as coaches of TUF Brazil 3
Bitter rivals Chael Sonnen and Wanderlei Silva are finally booked for an official MMA match. But before that, they will have to serve as coaches in the third season of TUF Brazil.
Dana White made the announcement on the Monday edition of Fox Sports Live:
UFC stars Chael Sonnen and Wanderlei Silva have made no secret of wanting to fight one another, and now it seems that will happen — but only if they make it through a season of working together as coaches on The Ultimate Fighter: Brasil…. Sonnen, no stranger to picking fights against Brazilians, has waged a campaign to fight “The Axe Murderer,” writing him a series of poems and using his victory interview at UFC Fight Night in Boston to call him out. The two also had to be separated when they came face-to-face at an expo last month.”
The announcement points out to the Mr. Olympia expo last month. It that incident, Silva confronts the unsuspecting Sonnen with his own crew filming the action on his back. The two traded verbal slurs and they nearly went at it before being separated by the crowd. Sonnen, would later fire back at Silva in the organization’s weekly news and information show, UFC Tonight.
As with the tradition of TUF, the coaches will face each other after the finale of the series. Both fighters have served as coaches before. Silva was the head coach in the first Brazilian edition of the reality series while Sonnen had his stint in the seventeenth season of TUF.

Diego Sanchez expects a titleshot if he defeats Gilbert Melendez in an exciting fashion
Diego Sanchez may not be that impressive in his recent outings, he is 1-2 in his last three fights and one can argue that he lost all those fights. Nevertheless, his string of unimpressive performances did not prevented “The Dream” from assuming that a title shot is next once he gets past Gilbert Melendez in UFC 166.
With the recent happenings in the UFC, it is not that impossible for Sanchez to believe that he can earn a shot at gold after two consecutive wins. He has done it before when he challenged then-champion BJ Penn in 2009. Even Chael Sonnen did it when he went straight for Jon Jones belt after losing his middleweight title shot against Anderson Silva.
“Gilbert Melendez is my golden ticket. I’ve done it before. I fought two fights in 2009 at 155. Straight to the belt. (Melendez) has never been stopped. He avenged two of his three losses. His only loss is to Benson Henderson in a split decision that I felt went his way, so in a way I’m fighting a guy who’s almost untainted. And if I go in there, and I stop this guy, I think it makes a real case for a title shot.”
A stoppage win over El Nino will clearly raise Sanchez’ stocks but The Dream seems to forget that he is currently not ranked at 155. He would certainly enter the ranks but leapfrogging to a title shot is unlikely even if he stops Melendez in their showdown this weekend.
