Daniel Cormier plans to expose Roy Nelson’s legendary chin
Daniel Cormier doubts the longevity of Roy Nelson's legendary chin
Roy Nelson arguably has the best chin in the whole roster of UFC. Big Country has proven it in his entire UFC career; he has managed to stay on his feet while taking the best shots of hard hitting heavyweights like Fabricio Werdum, Frank Mir, Stipe Miocic and Junior dos Santos. Nelson may have lost all that fights but none can argue the toughness that he displayed in those one-sided beatdowns. He has only been stopped once in his career, and that happened more than 5 years ago at the hands of former UFC heavyweight champ Andrei Arlovski.
Daniel Cormier however, doubts the longevity of Nelson’s chin. The former Olympic wrestler believes that it may be suffering from wear and tear due to the punishment it received from all his previous fights.
“Every person, every tough guy you’ve ever seen fight, whether it’s in boxing or martial arts who is known for having a great chin — there’s an expiration date on that. There’s a number these guys can take. What if the last one from Stipe Miocic was the one that was one too many? Maybe the expiration date on Roy’s chin was up in Canada. Maybe mine are the ones he can’t take.”
Cormier, although not known as a knockout artist, does possess power in both hands. He has knocked out 5 of his 12 opponents in his perfect MMA career. It may not be wise to play a striking game with a heavy handed fighter like Nelson but a stoppage win over him, especially by knockout, will most likely give DC an immediate titleshot once he drops to light heavyweight division.
