Jake Shields likely to get the Condit vs. Brown winner
Jake Shields sees Carlos Condit and Matt Brown as possible opponents for his next fight
Jake Shields already has an idea of whom he will face next after the upset win over Demian Maia in UFC Fight Night 29. He thinks that he will likely take on the winner between Carlos Condit and Matt Brown. Shields already holds a win over Condit when they locked horns way back in 2006. However, he says that he welcomes the idea of a rematch or a fight with any top rated welterweights.
“I fought a top contender now. Demian Maia was looking at a title shot. I would love GSP first off, but maybe Carlos Condit, who I already beat, or Robbie Lawler. I’m ready to fight whoever.” says Shields in an interview after the event.
The win over Maia was one of his most difficult fights according to Shields. In that fight, the two fought a grueling war of attrition as they spend the majority of the match in the grappling game. In the end, Shields takes the nod of the two judges thus, making him one of the two non Brazilians to win a decision in a main event in Brazil. Shields revealed that even though he knew he won the fight, he was not expecting that he would win a decision in Brazil.
“It was a lot closer than I wanted,” he said. “When I got here I felt in his vibe that Demian Maia was ready for a war so I was expecting a really tough fight. I was hoping to make it less close but I thought I took the win but being here in Brazil I was a little nervous, of course.”
I wasn’t positive that they would give me the win,” he continued. “I felt I did enough but you never want a close fight like that, especially here in Brazil.”
