Fabio Maldonado wants Chael Sonnen or James Te Huna for his next bout
Fabio Maldonado calls out Chael Sonnen and James Te Huna
Fresh from a disputed win over Joey Beltran, Fabio Maldonado starts to call out names for possible opponents. The boxer turned MMA fighter sees Chael Sonnen and James Te Huna as good oppositions for his next fight. In an interview after UFC Fight Night 29, Maldonado states that he would like to face both of the aforementioned fighters in his future octagon bouts.
“I would love to fight Chael Sonnen. I would like to fight James Te Huna. James is a great striker, and Chael, a lot of people think he would kill my game, that he would tie me up. But I’m very well-trained.
“It’s hard for you to see my jiu-jitsu, but I can turn it around. I would do well against James, as well.” he added.
The win over Beltran gave Maldonado his first consecutive wins in the octagon. However, he was not convinced that he lost a single round of the fight.
“I don’t know what the judges think,” he said. “Sometimes if someone holds someone on the cage and you’re dominating, or you take someone’s back, someone’s getting beat up, just like I did against Beltran.”
After the fight, Beltran said that he thought he clearly won rounds 1 and 3. Having said that, he also admitted it was his fault for leaving the fight in the hands of the judges.
“I think I won first and third rounds, and I believed that taking him down and beating him up for two minutes in the third round was enough. He was pretty good, but once I had him on the fence I felt I had success and I busted him up, but I don’t know. It’s all good, it’s just too much work to have the judges do this to you. At the end of the day it’s my fault for leaving it to them,” Beltran said after the fight.
