Jake Ellenberger eyeing a rematch with Martin Kampmann this December
Jake Ellenberger plans to return in December with a fight against Kampmann
Jake Ellenberger is planning to get back in the octagon in UFC 168 and he has set his sights in Martin Kampmann as a possible opponent. He said that he is currently on a negotiation to fight in December and is aiming for a top rated welterweight.
“I’m just looking for someone one the top 10,” he said. “(Kampmann) is a good possibility right now. That’s something I’d definitely look forward to. UFC hasn’t offered me yet so I just have to wait. I’m always highly motivated to fight. I’m excited be back in there against a top 10 opponent.”
Ellenberger is on a 6 fight winning streak and is possibly in line for a title shot when he was stopped by Kampmann in the main event of the finale of The Ultimate Fighter 15. He immediately returned to the winning column with a decision win over Jay Hieron and a first round KO of Nate Marquardt. In his most recent outing, Ellenberger lost a decision to Rory McDonald. The defeat was very frustrating on his part according to him.
“It was very frustrating for me, I wasn’t myself,” he said. “I had to deal with some stuff, some training issues and small injuries, but everybody has to deal with this stuff so it was just frustrating.”
Meanwhile, his targeted opponent Kampmann (20-7, 11-6 in UFC) has lost his last two fights by stoppages. He was knocked out by Johny Hendricks in the first round in November of 2012 and was stopped by Carlos Condit in his most recent fight last August. His last victory is the TKO win against Ellenberger.
