Bellator 101 Main Card Results
Joe Warren defeated Nick Kirk via reverse triangle armbar in the main event of Bellator 101
The following are results from Bellator 101 that was held at Moda Center in Rose Quarter, Portland, Oregon. The event is features the first round of the season 9 of Bellator’s lightweight tournament and is headlined by a semi-final bout in the bantamweight division.
Joe Warren earns his spot in the finals of the 135 pounds division after submitting Nick Kirk via reversed triangle armbar in the second round of the main event. Warren, a Greco-Roman champion back in 2006 has put the pressure on his opponent since the start of the bell. He lands some combos and scored 2 takedowns in the first round. He immediately got the takedown in round 2 and worked his way into a reversed armbar from the crucifix position.
In the undercard, Russian prospect Alexander Sarnavskiy choked Marcus Davis in the first round. Sarnavskiy dropped the UFC veteran with a straight right hand and pounced on him in the mat. He then took Davis’ back and finished him with a rear naked choke. Davis is 0-1 in the promotion with one no contest.
Ricardo Tirloni finally ended his two fight losing streak with a unanimous decision win over Rich Clementi. Clementi suffered a cut in the first round due to the left hooks of Tirloni. Clementi, a UFC veteran has scored some leg kicks and landed a beautifully timed spinning backfist in the third round of the fight. However, Clementi failed to capitalize and lost via decision.
Brooks bloodied journeyman John Alessio en route to a unanimous decision. The fight was pretty one sided with Brooks dominating his much older opponent in the stand up and in the mat. The fight was scored 30-27, 30-26, 30-25 all in favor of Will Brooks.
In the first featured bout, Saad Awad stops Martin Stapleton in the first round. The Brit Stapleton started aggressively but was caught with combinations that dropped him to his knee. He recovered and scored a takedown but was reversed by Awad into a butterfly guard position. Awad then worked his way into a full mount and eventually took his opponents back. He softened Stapleton with punches before securing a rear naked choke.View Article Source »
