MMA Best Fighter: John Dodson
Still collating a list of best MMA fighters, Fighting Insider gives way to a flyweight talent -- John Dodson.
Born and raised in Albuquerque, John Dodson moved to Edgewood with his family. He competed in track, basketball, wrestling and gymnastics while attending Moriarty High School. He was a two-time state champion, one time state runner-up, and four time district champion in wrestling. He graduated from high school in 2003, and attended University of New Mexico while working at the local Chuck E. Cheese.
Because of his extensive wrestling background, John Dodson was recruited by Chris Luttrell and Greg Jackson in 2002. He trained in MMA and “fell in love with the sport.” He competed in a Grappler’s Quest and won the beginner’s level. Four months after, he won the intermediate level followed by his first amateur fight victory six months later. John Dodson made his professional debut in Japan against Yasuhiro Urushitani, wherein he loss via controversial decision.
As of September 2011, John Dodson is ranked as the No. 10 best flyweight MMA fighter by Sherdog.com. However, he is currently enlisted as a bantamweight fighter for The Ultimate Fighter season 14: Team Bisping vs Team Miller.
