Diego Sanchez Injured, Out of UFC 135 Fight Card
Diego Sanchez was forced out of his match-up with Matt Hughes due to hand injury.
The upcoming UFC 135 fight card will see a little change in its co-main event, as UFC President – Dana White – confirmed via Twitter that Diego Sanchez (23-4 MMA, 12-4 UFC) broke his hand and was forced to withdraw from his bout against Matt Hughes (45-8 MMA, 18-6 UFC). “Diego Sanchez broke his hand,” White noted. “Looking for a replacement for Hughes.”
UFC 135 will be held on September 24, 2011 at the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado. The evening’s main card, which headlines the light heavyweight championship bout between Jon Jones and Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, will be aired on pay-per-view.
In March 2011, Diego Sanchez attained his second straight win with a unanimous decision victory over Martin Kampmann at UFC on Versus 3. Their bout, which is said to be very electrifying, has earned the Fight of the Night honors. “The Ultimate Fighter 1″ middleweight champ made his return to his hometown to prepare for a welterweight come back. He then faced John Hathaway at UFC 114 where he suffered a unanimous decision loss, giving Diego Sanchez his second consecutive misfortune.
Matt Hughes, on the other hand, has been out of the Octagon since 2010 after attaining a quick knockout loss to B.J. Penn. The said bout marked the first time he was knocked out by his contender. Prior to the loss, Matt Hughes was able to make a three-fight win streak victories over Matt Serra, Renzo Gracie and Ricardo Almeida.View Article Source »
