Martin Kampmann vs Rick Story, Scheduled for UFC 139
UFC just added a new welterweight bout to its upcoming UFC 139 event in San Jose, the Kampmann vs Story bout
A pair of welterweight fighters looking forward to returning in the win column is now set to meet at the upcoming UFC 139.
The promotion’s officials just confirmed that Martin Kampmann has verbally agreed to take on Rick Story at the Nov. 19 event, which is expected to take place at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California. The evening’s main card, headlining the heavyweight bout between Cain Velasquez and Junior Dos Santos, will be airing on pay-per-view; while Kampmann vs Story match-up is possible to appear on PPV broadcast or in Spike TV’s “UFC Prelims” special.
Rising from a two-fight loss streak, Martin Kampmann (17-5 MMA, 8-4 UFC) is a Danish mixed martial artist who is well-known for his marvelous strikes and quick submissions. After attaining series of victories last year, the “Hitman” suffered a close split decision loss to former Strikeforce Middleweight Champion – Jake Shields – at UFC 121. It was then followed by a close unanimous decision defeat to Diego Sanchez at this year’s UFC on Versus 3.
Martin Kampmann was expected to meet John Howard at the UFC on Versus 4 event last June. However, the Xtreme Couture fighter was forced out of the card due to an injury.
On the other hand, Rick Story (13-4 MMA, 6-2 UFC) just had his recent defeat over Charlie Brenneman in the UFC on Versus 4. The “Horror” was supposed to face Nate Marquardt at the event, who replaced Anthony Johnson, but he is pulled out from the card due to medical clearance shortages. Before the misfortune, Rick Story took five consecutive bouts wherein he attempted to hit the title belt.
