Charles Oliveira: Moving to Featherweight?
Charles Oliveira is said to consider moving to featherweight following his setbacks.
After loosing two of his last three fights, Charles Oliveira will consider moving down from lightweight to featherweight. His manager, Wade Hampel, said that the latter is planning to discuss the possibility with the fighter and the coaching staff. However, the decision is not as simple as cutting down a few pounds. According to the manager, Charles Oliveira – who usually walks at around 164 pounds – is still growing. Charles Oliveira signed his UFC contract last summer, and his height then was 5′ 2″. Now, he is 6′ 2″.
But when asked if Charles Oliveira has a preference, Wade Hampel said that the fighter is willing to compete at any weight division. He also added that the lightweight talent fought at 170 pounds in Brazil before joining the promotion. But after starting his professional career, Charles Oliveira received his first setbacks.
However, some of his advisers don’t see weight as an issue. In fact, Charles Oliveira once defeated Efrain Escudero, despite the latter coming in four pounds too heavy. Wade Hampel pointed out:
“People say that Cerrone came in really big but he landed a great liver shot. If anyone lands a perfect shot, especially on the liver, I don’t care if you’re 135, you’ll get the same response. But we’re going to keep our options open.”
The decision to change weight division will be made by Charles Oliveira, Wade Hampel, and the fighter’s coaches — Jorge Patino and Ericson Cardozo. The manager also added that the fighter will try a test cut as early as next week, and check how his body responds.View Article Source »
