Alistair Overeem: Fighting for Glory World Series in October
Alistair Overeem seems like not fighting for Strikeforce next, as he was featured at the Glory World Series' next tourney.
It appears that Alistair Overeem’s next fight won’t be under the Strikeforce banner. The Glory World Series released a poster last Wednesday, with the heavyweight champion featured at the center-front. The news was confirmed by the fighter’s trainer and promoter of Glory World Series, Martijn de Jong. However, no opponent for Alistair Overeem was named.
Last week, Alistair Overeem was removed from the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix, after he told Zuffa that he won’t be able to fight Antonio Silva in the semifinals on September 10. The heavyweight champ explained:
“Strikeforce promised me a date in the fall (October/November), I acted on it and chose to go on holiday and start my training in August. Zuffa/Showtime then decided to do it in September and then the ball was in my court, and I had to decline because I know it’s too short of time to be prepared 100 percent. Instead of postponing the event they decided that the show must go on and use one of the alternates.”
While no exact date was given, Martijn de Jong said that the next Glory World Series will take place in late October in Moscow, Russia.View Article Source »
