Faber vs Bowles Winner Gets Bantamweight Title Shot
Urijah Faber will have to redeem his loss against Dominick Cruz in a later time, as he was set to face Brian Bowles at UFC 139.
Following his defeat at UFC 132 against Bantamweight champion, Dominick Cruz, Urijah Faber passed over an immediate rubber match, in favor of Demetrius Johnson. With the latter anchoring a four-fight win streak, including a notable win over Miguel Torres, the California Kid will now face Brian Bowles. In addition to this, UFC also announced that the winner of Urijah Faber vs Brian Bowles match will face the winner of Dominick Cruz vs Demetrius Johnson bout.
Urijah Faber talked to ESPN.com with regards to the prospect of facing another fighter with a strong claim for the title.
“I definitely want the rematch with Cruz. It’s a fight that needs to happen. But I’m fine with having another fight going into it. It definitely gives me extra motivation. Beating Brian Bowles is just one step closer to getting that belt. I’m sure Brian Bowles is motivated himself to get another shot.”
