Brian Bowles, to Face Urijah Faber at UFC 139
Although Brian Bowles failed to defend his WEC bantamweight title, UFC gaves him another chance to prove his skills by granting a slot on the upcoming UFC 139 against Urijah Faber.
Brian Bowles (10-1 MMA, 2-0 UFC) will be facing former WEC featherweight champ, Urijah Faber (25-5 MMA, 0-1 UFC), on UFC 139. While the venue and exact date of the bout are not yet officially announced, most reports claimed that the UFC 139 will take place at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California on November 19.
As stated by UFC president, Dana White: “Before a possible trilogy can be considered between Urijah Faber and his rival, champion Dominick Cruz, he will take on one of the division’s truly elite fighters, former bantamweight champion Brian Bowles. A win over Faber would be massive for Bowles’ bid to challenge for the belt that was once his. The stakes are high and the fight will be intense.”
Brian Bowles won the WEC’s 135-pound title over Miguel Torres during the WEC 42 event way back in 2009. But unfortunately, he was not able to defend the said title after obtaining a loss against Dominick Cruz. The former champion suffered from several injuries, which pushed him to leave the cage of WEC. After being vacated for almost a year, Brian Bowles entered the Octagon and obtained UFC victories against Takeya Mizugaki and Damacio Page.
Meanwhile, Urijah Faber – who also appeared in some WEC events – received a decision loss over Dominick Cruz at the lately held UFC 132. Most of their fans requested for a rematch in order to finish the trilogy which began in 2007.View Article Source »
