Roy Jones Jr. vs Derrick Mehmen, Targeted for Strikeforce Challengers 18 in Las Vegas
The match-up between Roy Jones Jr. and Derrick Mehmen is also booked for August's Strikeforce Challengers 18 event.
The product of Authentic Sports Management (ASM), Roy Jones Jr., will make his promotional debut at next month’s Strikeforce Challengers 18 event against Derrick Mehmen. The said event will be held on August 12 at The Pearl at Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas. As of now, there are still no official statements if the Jones Jr. vs Mehmen bout will air on the Showtime-televised main card.
Roy Jones Jr. started his pro MMA career last 2009 under the Iowa fight circuit, wherein he obtained five consecutive victories — all were achieved during the first round of the match.
“I am super excited at this opportunity. I also want to give my appreciation to my family back home in Iowa, and to the ‘Blackzilians’ who are helping me get ready for this fight,” Ryan Jones Jr. shared.
Meanwhile, his contender – Derrick Mehmen – is a former NJCAA All-American wrestler and a Bellator fighter who’s all victories came through a stoppage — except for his recent match with Matt Thompson wherein he attained a decision victory. He only holds losses to few MMA giants such as Mike Ciesnolevicz, Dave Branch and Gareth Joseph.
The Strikeforce Challengers 18 will feature a Jorge Gurgel vs Joe Duarte fight. Also in the card are ASM stablemates Danillo Villefort and Nate James, Pat Healy and Eric Wisely, Sarah D’Alelio and Ronda Rousey, and Keith “KO Kid” Berry and Gian Villante.View Article Source »
