Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker, Positive for Crossover Bouts?
Strikeforce CEO, Scott Coker, revealed his thoughts with regards to the idea of having crossover match-ups with UFC.
Strikeforce vs UFC fights seems possible to happen for Strikeforce CEO, Scott Coker. However, he still pointed out that such crossover bouts will undergo series of discussions for he is aiming to witness not only champion vs champion match-ups, but also bouts coming from fighters of Strikeforce lineups and UFC’s. Scott Coker said:
“That was supposed to happen a few years ago. Why not do it now? How about Antonio ‘Bigfoot’ Silva against Brock Lesnar or Shane Carwin? I think there are some amazing fights. Not just our champion versus their champion, but fighters in our lineup fighting fighters from their lineup going two or three deep. I think all those fights would be fantastic. I’d love to see Cung Le fight Chris Leben. Wouldn’t that be fun to watch? I would love to do it, but for now, we’ll just see what happens.”
The idea of having crossover match-ups started with the sale of Strikeforce to the parent company of UFC. Fans reacted on this move, pushing them to signal the Strikeforce’s fighters to participate on bouts held in the UFC’s Octagon. Per contra, Scott Coker denotes that he has no plans of merging his fighters with the athletes of UFC.
“For now, that’s going to be the company policy. We have a business to run, and that business is Strikeforce, along with working with Showtime television. We have obligations to them to produce these great fights for them. We’re going to need the roster to be there to fight. I think in time, those fights will all happen, but I think fans need to be patient.”
Though the Strikeforce CEO disclosed that he is positive for crossover bouts, some MMA experts said that such match-ups will only take place once the promotion opens its doors to UFC — like what WEC did before.

“We’ve got an amazing marketing team and resources,” Coker stated. “We didn’t have that available to us when we were just Strikeforce without the UFC. Now I think we’re going to see some better results. And I think what it comes down to is that we just keep doing a great job of putting great numbers up for Showtime, which I think we’ve been delivering great fights and great ratings. I see that as an important key to see Strikeforce continue to move forward.”
