Fabricio Werdum Hopes to Unify Strikeforce and UFC Titles
With the GSP vs Diaz welterweight fight now in the works, Strikeforce heavyweights - Alistair Overeem and Fabricio Werdum - would like to have a crossover fight too.
With one crossover fight between Georges St-Pierre and Nick Diaz now in the works, it’s no brainer to wonder on what’s in store for the champions of other weight divisions. And with the second round of Strikeforce’s Heavyweight Grand Prix fast approaching, it’s not hard to imagine that the winner between Alistair Overeem and Fabricio Werdum would present another crossover.
Although Strikeforce Heavyweight champion – Alistair Overeem – and contender – Fabricio Werdum – are focused on facing each other in the quarterfinals, both of them are hoping that winning the tournament will grace their way to a bout against current UFC Heavyweight king — Cain Velasquez. In addition to this, Fabricio Werdum’s ultimate dream is to unify the Strikeforce and UFC titles.
But it seems impossible yet, as Alistair Overeem is intent on redeeming himself at his upcoming rematch versus Fabricio Werdum. Back in 2006, the latter defeated the current champion under the PRIDE banner. Hence, the Heavyweight king wants to prove that his loss was due to a chaotic camp.
The winner of Strikeforce: Overeem vs Werdum will meet Antonio Silva, who defeated Fedor Emelianenko last February, for a semifinal spot in the promotion’s Heavyweight Grand Prix.View Article Source »
