Junior Dos Santos: Ready to Continue His UFC 131 Heavyweight Drive

Shane Carwin takes his stride to the top of the heavyweight division slower, as he become wiser for the coming days.
Junior Dos Santos skyrocketed to the top of heavyweight division with his six-fight winning streak. He was almost on the verge of getting his title shot at UFC 129, but his patience was tested. The current champion, Cain Velasquez, discovered a severe injury, hence Junior Dos Santos took a coaching stint at TUF 13. He took the opportunity of great exposure while holding on to a promise of No. 1 contender bout against Brock Lesnar. Unfortunately, the latter is suffering a second attack of Diverticulitis. That said, Shane Carwin was tapped to face Junior Dos Santos at UFC 131 instead.
The opponent switching was okay with Junior Dos Santos, but ten months without a fight is such a long time. Good thing, UFC kept him busy with TUF 13. In fact, he learned a lot on how to teach on a reality show, he made several new friends, albeit he has yet to patch things up with his former assistant coach — Lew Polley.
Junior Dos Santos’ personal coaching staff helped him keep sharp, most especially now that he will be facing Shane Carwin on June 11. From a fight against a ground-and-pound fighter, Junior Dos Santos redirected his training camp to get ready for a knockout artist. However, he insist to retain his approach to fighting now that the upcoming fight will be more interesting.
Next Saturday, June 11, whoever wins between Junior Dos Santos and Shane Carwin at UFC 131 will get a chance to meet Cain Velasquez. That is if the champion is ready to go this fall. But for now, Junior Dos Santos is just taking his car into a neutral drive.
