UFC Slates Jon Jones’ next Fight, but Not with Rashad Evans
While it is still unsure as to when Jon Jones and Rashad Evans will face each other in the Octagon, UFC officials said that they have plans for the light heavyweight champ.
While the bitter feud between Jon Jones and Rashad Evans is increasing, UFC President – Dana White – said that the difference won’t be settled in the cage soon. Although Rashad Evans’ win against Phil Davis at UFC 133 will keep him on top of the division, light heavyweight champion – Jon Jones – still need to book an event before then.
This past weekend, Jon Jones gave several interviews where he hinted to a potential match against Lyoto Machida or Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson should he win over Matt Hamill at UFC 130. But when Dana White was pressed as to why the promotion wouldn’t wait until UFC 133 to make the Jon Jones vs Rashad Evans grudge match possible, the president replied that it was all a matter of timing.
“Let’s say, hypothetically speaking, Rashad Evans fights and he wins the fight against Phil Davis. Let’s say he wins that fight in 30 seconds and comes out without a scratch, feels like a million bucks and is ready to go and wants to fight Jon Jones in December. We will have already shot the commercials. That stuff is three months out. It would be impossible to do.”
The UFC President even added that the officials considered pulling Phil Davis from the match against Rashad Evans. But with the champion’s right hand still injured, it will be too risky to tear such a sure thing apart. Dana White even dispel the notion that Jon Jones was trying to avoid the fight.
Jon Jones and his camp suggested that the fighter will be ready to fight come fall. And albeit Dana White can’t commit to a particular opponent for the light heavyweight champ, he believes that fans will be in awe with what UFC is planning next.View Article Source »
