Brendan Schaub: Wanting to Duel Minatauro at UFC Rio
With a knockout win over Mirko 'Cro Cop' Filipovic, former TUF cast member - Brendan Schaub - eyes a fight against Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira at UFC Rio.
Following Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira’s announcement of fighting at the upcoming UFC 134, two heavyweight fighters are waiting for a tap to join him in the Octagon. Mirko ‘Cro Cop’ Filipovic and Brendan Schaub made their interest to fight Minatauro Nogueria known to the public.
Albeit Antonio Rodrigo Nogueria’s coach – Luis Dorea – personally hoped for Cro Cop, Brendan Schaub and his team believes that he deserve the spot. Manager, Lex McMahon, said in a text to ESPN.com that they are optimistic to get the fight at UFC 134.
“We are lobbying daily for the fight. As of now, we have not been offered the fight. We are optimistic that if [Nogueira] is healthy, Brendan has a good shot to be his opponent in Brazil.
“Also, I’m a huge Cro Cop fan and have tremendous respect for him, but it seems a stretch that Cro Cop would fight [Nogueira] in Brazil after Brendan knocked him out with one of the most vicious KOs I’ve ever seen. Brendan is one of the most dominant fighters in the division and we’re hopeful the UFC will reward him with the great honor of fighting in Rio.”
The former TUF cast member is anchoring a four-fight win streak, including a knockout win over Mirko Filipovic last March. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueria, on the other hand, will ditch his knockout loss from Cain Velasquez after being on the sideline since February 2010. A hip and knee surgery also led the fighter to his longest inactive period in MMA.
