Shane Carwin Steps in for Brock Lesnar at UFC 131
After his Diverticulitis strikes again, Brock Lesnar pulls out of his UFC 131 bout against Junior Dos Santos.
Former UFC heavyweight champ, Brock Lesnar, was forced to withdraw from his UFC 131 bout against Junior Dos Santos, due to a re-occurrence of his Diverticulitis. Diverticulitis is a condition of the colon, wherein pouches are formed and become inflamed. It can be treated through antibiotics or through excising a part of the colon.
Brock Lesnar admitted that he’s been battling the symptoms for the past three months, but still undecided whether to have a surgery or not. However, he spent 14 hours undergoing medical examination and meeting with the doctors at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota last Wednesday. Surgery is an option, but Brock Lesnar said that he’s still accumulating information.
He apologized to Junior Dos Santos, the UFC and Spike for pulling out from the UFC 131 bout, but he said that he’s unable to train to 100%. However, the former UFC heavyweight champion insisted that he will look for a solution on his Diverticulitis and continue his career.
Meanwhile, UFC president – Dana White – announced that Shane Carwin will step in for Brock Lesnar, and will face Junior Dos Santos at UFC 131. The Shane Carwin vs Junior Dos Santos match will determine who will the be next heavyweight contender against reigning heavyweight king, Cain Velasquez.View Article Source »
