Jose Aldo vs Chad Mendes, Set for UFC 134?
After Jose Aldo successfully defended his title against Mark Hominick at UFC 129, is Chad Mendes next in line?
Following the most difficult title defense of his career, Jose Aldo’s next bout was already speculated. After the featherweight champion’s Fight of the Night victory over Mark Hominick at UFC 129, press people asked UFC President – Dana White – about the Brazilian’s future. However, Dana White was non-committal whether Jose Aldo will make his way to UFC 134. He even asserted that he might have other plans for the featherweight champ.
But with August 6 penciled as Jose Aldo’s tentative return, the next logical question emerged: Who will be the featherweight champion’s next contender?
“Probably [Chad Mendes]. Kenny Florian couldn’t be ready by then. Mendes is 10-0. It makes sense.”
But the UFC President added that he had not yet discussed the potential title bout with the fighter or his manager, Ed Soares.
When it comes to Jose Aldo’s unanimous decision victory over Mark Hominick in front of the hostile 55,000 crowd, the champion said that he felt he had showcased his versatility during his title defense.
“I never underestimated Mark Hominick. I knew he had heavy hands. If one of us made the wrong move, either one of us could have been knocked out. I knew I was able to go all five rounds very strong. It doesn’t really matter if there are even 80,000 people. This is what I live for. I hope if they have a bigger event someday, that I’ll be fighting on that event, too.
“All of my fights are difficult, and I respect all of my opponents. I think tonight showed I have the heart to go all five rounds and not just knock people out [quickly].”
Whether the rumored Jose Aldo vs Chad Mendes bout will become reality, is a match-up yet to be official, so keep it posted here on Fighting Insider for more update.View Article Source »
