UFC 128 Preliminary Card Preview
With UFC 128: Shogun vs Jones fast approaching, Fighting Insider takes a peek at the fighters on the preliminary card.
It is safe to say that the best card for 2011 will take place this Saturday, at UFC 128: Shogun vs Jones. While the pay-per-view card will highlight a big UFC Light Heavyweight title fight, the preliminary roster green lits good action as well.
The preliminary fight card will kick off with a catch-weight brawl between Nick Catone and Constantinos Philippou. Though it has been more than a year since Nick Catone’s last fight, it was a victory over Jesse Forbes. Constantinos Philippou, on the other hand, will be making a UFC debut as a late replacement for Dan Miller. And it looks like the lack of preparation will hurt the latter, as Nick Catone will go for the win.
Next are featherweight fighters, Raphael Assuncao versus Erick Koch. Making his official UFC debut, Raphael Assuncao, has won three of his last five bouts in WEC. Opposing him is Erik Koch who’s also making a UFC debut at UFC 128: Shogun vs Jones. He is coming from a victory over UFC veteran, Francisco Rivera. This fight is going to be a close one, but there are high possibilities that Raphael Assuncao’s superior wrestling capabilities can earn him a victory.
Headlining the UFC 128 preliminary card are Joseph Benavidez and Ian Loveland. The former is coming from a loss to current bantamweight champion, Dominick Cruz, last 2010. Meanwhile, Ian Loveland is undefeated in UFC with notable wins from Tyler Toner at UFC Ultimate Fighter 12 Finale. And though coming from a defeat, Joseph Benavidez will have his hand raised by the end of the bout.
The UFC 128: Shogun vs Jones will take action at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey on March 19. The event will feature a light heavyweight battle between Mauricio “Shogun” Rua and Jon Jones.
