Jon Jones is Not Talking About Evans
"I absolutely hate when people mention Rashad Evans, especially throughout this training camp." --- Jon Jones, UFC Light Heavyweight fighter
As Jon Jones gears up for his UFC 128 title fight against Mauricio “Shogun” Rua, inevitable inquiries as to whether he’ll eventually face Rashad Evans keeps firing at him. Friends and training partners, Rashad Evans and Jon Jones, have maintained in the past that they would not fight each other. And though their stands about the issue softened these past few days, Jon Jones is tired of answering that question. In fact, he wants everybody to know that he only has one thing in mind now — Mauricio “Shogun” Rua.
“I want to make clear to all the reporters, I absolutely hate when people mention Rashad Evans, especially throughout this training camp. He’s a friend of mine, but I’m fighting Mauricio ‘Shogun,’ one of the best fighters that’s been around for a long time, and so people don’t need to be mentioning Rashad Evans right now.”
If the number one, light heavyweight contender becomes successful on March 19, the question will come flying at him non-stop. Still, he’s not talking about it until UFC 128 is done.
On the other hand, Trevor Wittman – Jon Jones and Rashad Evans’ former coach – is quick to admit that both fighters should fight if the light heavyweight title is on the line. But only time will tell if the training partners will ever face off.
