Coker Confirms Strikeforce April 9 Event
It's confirmed! No Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix on April 9. But fans are in for Nick Diaz vs Paul Daley and Gilbert Melendez vs Tastuya Kawajiri title bouts.
Strikeforce CEO, Scott Coker, confirmed that the second Heavyweight Grand Prix will be postponed until June 18. According to his prepared statement, the reason for such delay was to properly capitalize on the success of its Strikeforce: Fedor vs Silva event.
In addition to this, Scott Coker revealed that the April 9 event will feature two title fights instead. Nick Diaz will defend welterweight belt against Paul Daley, while lightweight champ – Gilbert Melendez – will meet Tatsuya Kawajiri. A venue for Strikeforce’s April 9 event is yet to be determined, but there are rumors that Oakland, California’s Oracle Arena is one of the targeted setting. There are also no confirmations as to whether KJ Noons will be part of the card.
As for the second Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix, the event will feature Alistair Overeem vs Fabricio Werdum and Josh Barnett vs Brett Rogers match-ups. It will kick off on June 18 at the American Airlines Center. A full press release on the April 9 event and the Heavyweight Grand Prix delay is expected on Thursday.View Article Source »
