The Ultimate Fighter Goes International with Philippines
Good news to all Filipino MMA fans! UFC officials are planning to start their TUF international editions in the Philippines, and it's likely to happen this year.
During a media conference call yesterday, UFC President – Dana White – laid out the plans of featuring Filipino fighters in the promotion’s first international edition of “The Ultimate Fighter”. First launched in 2005 on Spike TV, each TUF installment has been based in the US. However, UFC execs are putting together an expansion plan to spread the reality series world-wide.
And albeit Spike TV is unlikely to air the international editions, Dana White hopes that fans across the globe will be able to watch the shows — be it online or through another broadcast channel. Dana White has recently hinted various options for TUF international editions, like Canada, Brazil, England, Middle East and Mexico. However, Philippines was mentioned sporadically.
And this is not the first time that UFC set its eyes on the Land of the Orient. Back in 2008, UFC officials announced their plans to host an event in the Philippines in mid-2009. Unfortunately, the plan was scrapped due to global financial crisis. Do you have any Filipino MMA fighter in mind that would like to see in The Ultimate Fighter’s international edition?
