Vitor Belfort, Ready to Face Anderson Silva
Almost one week to go and the big is here to take action! Anderson Silva will try to defend his middleweight title against Vitor Belfort, who's now ready to take the challenge.
When the Brazilian striker, Vitor Belfort, entered the UFC scene in 1997, he was just 19 years old. Yet, he evolved along the sport. At 33 years old, Vitor Belfort is one of those fighters from the old days that can handle a major card, let alone fighting in a championship level. This February 5, he will be the next fighter who will attempt to snatch the belt out of Anderson Silva at UFC 126 — a task that has proven to be impossible so far. But despite the high stakes, Vitor Belfort no longer allows the enormity of the moment to overwhelm him.
He has won five straight matches, but only his first-round knock out over Rich Franklin in September 2009 came in the UFC. After that, the anticipated fight between Anderson Silva and Vitor Belfort has been postponed dozens of times due to injuries that both fighters incurred. But after 16 months of layoff and subsequent rehabilitation, Vitor Belfort will attempt to become the first UFC fighter to win titles in three different decades.
In 1997, Vitor Belfort won a one-night heavyweight tourney. Seven years later, he defeated Randy Couture and took the light-heavyweight championship belt. And now, he hopes to include a middleweight championship belt to his resume. And though he knows the feeling of being a champion, Vitor Belfort still believes that Anderson Silva is the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world.

“If I said I faced someone like Anderson before, I’d be lying. He’s a type of unique guy in the sport. The way he fights, the way he proves himself. It’s very interesting. I’m very curious how the fight’s going to go.”
