Akiyama vs Marquardt Official for UFC 128
After the money laundering case against Chael Sonnen, he was kicked out of UFC 128, leaving Yoshihiro Akiyama without any opponent. However, the world doesn't end there because Nate Marquardt came to the rescue. Now, Akiyama and Marquardt will clash on UFC 128.
UFC 128 features a light-heavyweight title bout between champ Mauricio “Shogun” Rua and former champ Rashad Evans, “UFC 128: Shogun vs. Evans” takes place March 19 at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J.
Akiyama previously was slated to Chael Sonnen but after some circumstances, Chael Sonnen was forced to withdraw from the card.
This will be Marquardt’s first fight after a November loss to Yushin Okami. Before his heartbreaking loss, Marquardt scored 5-2 in his seven fights, one of them came from Anderson Silva in 2007. He also lost Chael Sonnen at UFC 109.
Akiyama, fights for his future in the promotion as of the moment. He made his debut on the octagon at UFC 100 and narrowly edged Alan Belcher via split decision. Since then, he suffered a submission loss to Chris Leben and a split-decision defeat to Michael Bisping.
With the official addition, UFC 128 now includes:
