Jake Shields vs Georges St-Pierre Official for UFC 129
It's official! Everyone's favorite champion Georges St-Pierre and top contender Jake Shields will face off on UFC 129.
Toronto is ready to host its first ever UFC event. As what FightingInsider previously reported, welterweight champ Georges St-Pierre (21-2 MMA, 15-2 UFC) will defend his title against Jake Shields (26-4-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC) on UFC 129.
UFC boss, Dana White has confirmed the long-rumored fight and officials have announced the fight during this week’s “UFC Ultimate Insider” online show.
The “UFC 129: St-Pierre vs. Shields” is said to take place on April 30 at the 69,000-seat Rogers Centre in Toronto. The night’s main card airs on pay-per-view, and a UFC Fan Expo event coincides with the show.
The French-Canadian champ will definitely help in breaking UFC’s attendance record. GSP posted his fifth consecutive title defense victory with a unanimous decision vistory over Josh Koscheck at UFC 124. He was considered as the world’s top-ranked pound-for-pound competitor. If he will win over Shields, this might prompt GSP to move to middleweight.
On the other side of the octagon, Jake Shields made his debut at the promotion and edged Martin Kampmann via split decision at UFC 121. He owns a 15-fight win streak with wins over notables such as Dan Henderson, Jason “Mayhem” Miller, Robbie Lawler, Paul Daley, Nick Thompson, Mike Pyle, Carlos Condit and Yushin Okami.
He on the path to be the seventh different welterweight champion in UFC history.
