St-Pierre vs Shields Next on UFC 129

As expected, champion Georges St-Pierre will meet Jake Shields next. The former will defend his title on UFC 129 this April. Dana White, UFC president, confirmed the bout.

welterweight champion (21-2 , 15-2 UFC) will defend his title against (26-4-1 , 1-0 UFC) in the headliner of April’s event in Toronto. The matter has been expected to happen ever since Ultimate Fighter 12 took place.

UFC president confirmed the rumor. The event will also feature UFC Hall of Famer (19-10 MMA, 16-7 UFC) vs. former champ (16-2 MMA, 8-2 UFC). UFC 129 is slated on April 30 at the Rogers Centre in Toronto. The night’s main card airs on pay-per-view.

Having the French-Canadian, St-Pierre on the main card does the trick. The champ recently posted his fifth title defense with a unanimous victory over top contender Josh Koscheck at UFC 124. The top-billed fighter aims to win the welterweight division via win over Shields. It will also mark his ninth win and 15th victory in his 16 fights.

On the other hand, Shields, a former EliteXC welterweight champion and Strikeforce middleweight titleholder had his UFC debut at UFC 121. He won over Edging Martin Kampmann via split decision victory.
