Pound-for-Pound MMA Female Fighters
Mixed Martial Arts is not just for the big boys. Women can also be a part of the sport, and they can be good at it. That being said, Fighting Insider brings you the pound-for-pound women MMA fighters.
Fighting Insider has been writing a lot of articles, ranking the best MMA fighters in varying division. However, all of them belongs to the male group. So, what about the women’s side of the ring? During the last five months, Bellator did a great thing for women’s mixed martial arts this season. The promotion put up an eight-woman tournament, featuring the great MMA fighters. It only shows that mixed martial arts can also be a girl thing, and that even women can be good at it.
1. Cris Cyborg
It is no brainer why Cris Cyborg is on top of the list, since Strikeforce can no longer find worthy challengers for her. Her powerful striking and killer instinct takes women’s MMA to another level.
2. Zoila Frausto
During the latest Bellator event, Zoila Frausto was not originally part of the card. However, she was the one who won the whole thing. Good thing she knocked out Rosi Sexton. Zoila Frausto anchors notable victories from Jessica Pene, Jessica Aguilar, and Megumi Fujii. Her only loss came from Miesha Tate.
3. Megumi Fujii
Winning her first 22 fights in MMA, Megumi Fujii’s victory is one of the most impressive accomplishments is the history of women’s MMA. Her 22-fight winning streak was only cut short after Zoila Frausto gave her first setback.
4. Marloes Coenen
During the Strikeforce’s 135-pound championship, Marloes Coenen showed off how well-rounded of a fighter she is. She was able to beat Sarah Kaufman, and she is very distinct in fighting off her back.
5. Sarah Kaufman
Sarah Kaufman got her initial defeat from Marloes Coenen. Though it is disappointing for her, it only shows that Strikeforce can put up an interesting 135-pound event, with surprising results.
6. Roxanne Modafferi
Roxanne Modafferi is a very likable fighter who spent most of her career in Japan. After acquiring two straight fights in United States, she’s keeping her fingers crossed for more stateside bouts.
7. Tara LaRosa
Tara LaRosa was once regarded by many as America’s best female fighter. Unfortunately, Roxanne Modafferi defeated her. Will she be able to bounce back? That remains to be seen.
8. Miesha Tate
Miesha Tate got a professional record of 5-0 for the last 13 months. Whether it’ll remain blemish free will depend on her next fight against Marloes Coenen. That is, if Strikeforce give them a match-up for next year.
9. Jessica Aguilar
Jessica Aguilar seems great during the first round of the latest Bellator tournament while beating Lynn Alvarez. Unfortunately, she suffered a controversial split decision loss to Zoila Frausto in the semifinals.
10. Erin Toughill
It’s been more than a year since Erin Toughill last fought, and there’s not another fight scheduled for her. However, she is one woman whom Strikeforce can put in the cage with Cris Cyborg. But whether this match-up becomes a reality, only time can tell.
