WEC 53 Bonuses: Roller, Wineland, Pettis & Henderson with 10K Wins

WEC 53 marks the end of the WEC era. Next year, WEC and sister company UFC will merge into one. WEC 53 fighters bagged stashes of cash for their action-packed performances.

, Shane , and lead the “Fight Night” bonuses for their performances at Thursday’s WE3 52 event. Each fighter earned a whooping $10,000.

is awarded “Knockout of the Night” award, while Roller bagged the “Submission of the Night” bonus, and and earned “Fight of the Night” honors. The fighter bonuses were announced during the post-press conference of 53.

took place at Jobing.com Arena in Glendale, Ariz., while the night’s main card aired on Versus. will be the last installment for the fan-friendly organization. The promotion merges with UFC on 2011.

Wineland, the WEC’s first-ever bantamweight champ, earned his award with a first-round body-slam KO, but was immediately followed by some undesirable moments. Opponent Ken Stone was knocked unconscious by the blow and was rolled out of the cage on a stretch showing little if any movement. Fortunately, a report soon came from the hospital that the WEC newcomer was in good condition and actually headed back to the arena.

Roller, on the other hand, picked up his bonus with a first-round rear-naked choke of former lightweight champ Jamie Varner. After keeping the fight standing early and eating some blows, he scored a take down and secured a rear-naked choke just four minutes into the fight.

Pettis and Henderson, fought in the WEC’s final matchup. Pettis scored a unanimous-decision win over the ex-champ to claim the lightweight belt and secure an immediate UFC title shot. The fight will long be remembered for Pettis’ kick in which he walked and pushed off the fencing to floor Henderson with a right kick to the face. The highlight-reel knockdown likely secured the fifth and deciding round for the new champ, who earned the decision win via scores of 48-47, 48-47 and 49-46.
