It is a martial art, combat sport and self-defense system that puts emphasis on grappling and ground fighting. The Brazilian Jiu Jitsu originated from the Japanese martial arts of Kodokan Judo in the early 20th century. Gaining world fame in 1990 when Royce Gracie won the first ever Ultimate Fighting Championship, it teaches that a smaller and weaker person can defend himself against bigger and stronger assailant by using leverage and proper technique.
