’s final featherweight (18-1 , 8-0 WEC) will enter the octagon for the first time on ’s 2001 Opening Fight.

UFC president announced today, together with the news on WEC and UFC’s merging that the featherweight champ will defend his title. But still his opponent wasn’t divulged. will fetaure UFC champ Frankie Edgar and top contender Gray Maynard. The event will take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Dana White believes that Aldo is entering the gates of being a MMA Star.

“This kid could be a huge star,” White said. “[WEC fighters] are finally on the biggest stage in the world now.”

The potential opponents for Aldo are Canadian veteran Mark Hominick (19-8 MMA, 3-2 WEC) and Josh Grispi (14-1 MMA, 4-0 WEC).
