Jose Aldo Retains WEC Crown
The distance between World Extreme Cagefighting featherweight champion, Jose Aldo, and the rest of the 145-pound division may be wider than first thought. But with Junior retaining his crown, it seems otherwise.
Jose “Junior” Aldo stopped top contender Manny Gamburyan from taking away the belt at the WEC 51 last Thursday. At 92 seconds into round two, Gamburyan surrendered to Aldo’s second round punches and experienced his first defeat in his four WEC appearances. Surviving an early glance with Gamburyan, Aldo attacked his foe with a stream of leg kicks in the first round. He gave his opponent a straight right hand in the second round and approached for the finish. As Gamburyan dropped for a single-leg take-down, Junior handed him an uppercut and wheeled behind him followed by a furious stream of punches that left Manny Gamburyan unconscious.
Referee Herb Dean ended the fight at 1:32 and Aldo retained his crown. The 24-year-old Nova Uniao standout appears to have no equal in the featherweight division as he triumphed his 11th match.View Article Source »
